Looks like you did just fine, switching between loose lines and trying to add details. A lot of these early exercises are not about producing pretty pictures but showing you different techniques and and thought processes while drawing. Keep at it and you'll see substantial results eventually!

It looks fine to me. If you really feel like it you can always do it again. More important to move on than get stuck on one exercise though
