pretty much this. 50% of people in art schools are just there to waste time and make friends. They chose art because they thought it was the 'easiest thing'. It's not easy at all. But your success boils down to your ability to observe carefully and integrate what you've learnt, just like any other discipline.

Being surrounded by like minded individuals and being able to see the progress of others and compare yourself is a huge boon that can’t be understated
Having an instructor with a structured curriculum and being able to give you quick critique is also helpful

But not every art school is like that. I’d recommend going to an atelier since its cheaper and normally follow age old practices
