Where does /ic/ look for reference for materials such as boots and clothes? I have a pretty easy time finding figures but struggle looking for clothes from multiple angles and different lighting.
Anyone got a good site or place they go?

Pics not mine but something I’d like to practice

For shoes, online stores often have good photos from multiple angles.

Evan Lee does a lot of quick guides on different materials and painting them. It can help give you an idea of how to approach that particular material, even if you don't follow it step by step.

I use pinterest and bing, unironically.
I searched for shoe references on bing, found something I liked, turned out it was a pinterest pin and that redirected me to this x profile that's full of shoe references https://x.com/radenwa_tweet
If you don't have a twitter account, you can just replace x with xcancel in the url.
There are also neat references and tutorials on pixiv and just about any other art site, but using bing is usually faster for me if I already know what I'm looking for.
You could probably try 3D models too but I don't think they're on par with drawn or photo references.

I don't buy chinkshit anymore but aliexpress and the other chinese seller websites are still a great reference for a lot of weird clothes and other items that you might want to put on more fantastical characters. They're often not worth buying for this purpose as irl is a bit different from their photos (plus the shipping time).

Beyond that you can try going into thrift stores and buying things exclusively as reference material and props to study. You may need a mannequin if you don't know anyone who can wear and pose it for you though. Lights aren't that costly but they're also a thing to remember. These are writeoffs.
Hobby stores also have lots of little dioramas set up, usually, that you can reference for various things if the owner is fine with you bringing your sketchbook or tablet in to work. The lighting can be an issue, however.

Besides that you could try just anywhere "interesting people" go for extended periods and draw them. Libraries and coffee shops are the classic ones but at least in my area they're a bit more normiefied now.

You can upload images on this website and it'll index actual similar images based on it. And it also allows NSFW stuff.
I could use Pinterest, Cosmos.so or Google but it's full of AI shitz while this one bans it.. Also for whatever reason i usually get more high quality images here compared to other sites. Idk, might be just placebo.

Plus, you get separate recommendations of images based on the stuff in your collections, so you can have specific stuff for fashion, figure photography, etc, based on the content in your collection. I pretty much ditched all other sites and use this exclusively, never been so happy.

The Nordstrom clothing website has plenty of high resolution images of clothing from different angles. Other hoity-toity clothing outlet sites and even Target have similar.

the fashion pics that I collect have footwear and clothes.
Its much better to see a model wearing the clothes than just clothes on a rack..
I usually design my own costumes so I rarely look at my refs anyway.

Amazon review photos.
Different mix of lighting, armature and professional styling, verity of angles. And for certain items it also lets you filter for color and the reviewer's weight and height.

The video reviews are also neat if you need the item in motion.
