is taking commissions for lewd/porn still the only profitable option for average drawfags in 2025?

In Latin Ameria/ South East Asia? Yes. You can live like a king off commission money.

What? No he didn't, Rembrandt was an absolute celebrity and he got so much work he had assistents/pupils who would do some of it for him. He did die bankrupt but that was because he made shitty choices concerning his money, not because no one bought his paintings. You're probably confusing him with Vincent van Gogh, who was indeed a talentless schizo who only became famous after his death because he was much a 'tragic' starving artist, not by merit of his work .

That's not how that works.
Cost of living in Brazil is vastly different from cost of living in the United States.

If youre relying on commissions as your primary source of income and you make less than 800$ a month, you are going to be homeless. Meanwhile that kind of money will make you rich in most third world countries.

Its the number 1 reason why Latinx artists dominate the NSFW art scene.

What the fuck are you talking about? That is and always was one of the worst options. Very few people make decent money doing that. If you want to make money, GET A FUCKING JOB. Yes, you can get hired as an artist. You do generally need to be a decent enough artist, so if you're dogshit and will always be dogshit then yeah desperately trying to get porn commissions is your only real option. But it's barely a real option, and it's mindbogglingly retarded to pretend there aren't other ways to make money with art.

Honestly, if you're unable to come up with any means of making money with your art, are you really all that creative? Are you even passionate about this? Surely you should have run across other methods of making money, or thought of some methods on your own, that aren't drawing smut.

argie thirdie here,

I cannot talk for other countries nor other people situations, for example my family needs 1k or 2k to survive but rarely have that money for cover everything with the price rise. since i don't do this full time (family pressure to finish college) i can do up to 200 usd and everything goes to my family.
if you don't have pressure to "make happy" anyone, art can be a good income just be sure to pay for independent worker taxes and you'll be okay. 3 years ago i was paying for medical treatment and saving for finishing paying my pc debt which got 50% covered in 2 months but prices and cost of living really changes in argentina quite fast, sometimes in months.

I'll drop the basic bitch ideas from off the top of my head, because I'm not dropping my own unique business ideas for uncreative faggots to take, even if I never do them.
>Signing with an Art Dealer and Selling Traditional Art
>Signing with an Agent
>Regular sfw Commissions
>Print on Demand Physical Merch
>Custom Physical Merch Made Yourself (Screen printed tees or Posters, quickly reproducible sculptures, etc.)
>Digital Merch (3D Assets, Your Working Files for your Illustration, Tutorials, High Quality Collections of Your Artwork, Zines, Comics, etc)
>Video Games (There are options to do as little coding, or none at all, as possible so that you focus on just the art and story)
>Stream yourself making art, and remember to demand your pay pigs pay up
>Get a Fucking Job that involves Drawing
>Don't get a Fucking Job and Freelance
>Selling Your Physical Sketches if they're decent
>Cutting out the Middleman Art Dealers and Selling Your Traditional Work directly to your clientele
>Opening a Patreon (Yes, plenty of sfw artists have and do alright with them)
>If Your government has Art Funding Projects, come up with something they'd be interested in and pitch your idea
>Teaming up with other artists and professions to work on bigger projects (Animations, More complex video games, multimedia experiences)
>Youtube Videos

And if you try to say:
>Heh, X idea is shit and would never wo-
You're trying to advocate for depending on porn commissions as a stable source of income - you're a brain dead faggot if you think any of these ideas are less legitimate or stable than that.
I think the only reason so many people stick to the idea of commissions, whether NSFW or otherwise, is because it's one of the 'easiest' options; you set a price and have people come to you. However, if you're willing to put yourself out there to make money with your art, a lot more opens up for you.

This is already a thing. Shexyo gets a literal full-time job income with an AI art side gig after swapping from tracing Cutesexyrobutts to just straight AI.

Trying to "make it" as an NSFW artist is retarded at this point if you haven't already. Either get an industry job (lol) or get a real corporate job and do art as a hobby after your 9-5 and do some Roblox porn comms for zoomers here and there for some extra money a month.

Thats only if you have an actual job. Living off commissions is an unreliable form of income for majority of artists.

That 800$ could be 200$ the next month. Then you're fucked. Its not possible in the U.S unless you're like living off welfare or something and just do commissions as supplementary income.

I wonder if it ever was? Maybe a couple of years ago. But as many anons have pointed out here, no. I think it is still the fastest and lowest barrier to entry way to get money for art compared to other methods that typically take a lot more time or have higher skill requirements, but it's not exactly stable. For one, your clients are generally gonna be private consumers, not large companies. So unless their suspiciously rich, you're probably not gonna get paid full professional rates. That being said, I'm not sure if there really is a most profitable option for the average drawfag. If you want art to be profitable, you really would have to put a ton of time and effort into skill building, career building, etc. for it to work. You can't really be average in that case, you'd have to aim for a comparable skill level to most pro artists.

>>7677513
As this anon said, there are many ways you could potentially make profit with art but for many of these methods, you do actually have to put in a lot of work to make these feasible, and even if you do make it, you have to maintain your career. I think that a lot of people want easy paths to monetizing art but if that's the case, you're probably better off doing something else for a career. I don't say this to be discouraging, I just want people to understand that this career path is not as easy as they often think it is, and that it does on some level require some amount of sacrifice.
