I'm SO good at this.
I'm gonna be native-level some day.
>>211662455Wow cool!! Gif do you mind if I download this?
>>211662571Save it, it's all yours my friend :)
>>211650650It works because your mind learns to take shortcuts and takes advantage of the patterns (grammar!). You actually don't need to understand what you're hearing/seeing for it to work a little bit. And imo writing out everything is a little bit much. Just recalling it in your head is better than nothing and might be good enough for you.
And yeah LLMs are not entirely reliable but the good ones will generate grammatically correct text in German which is the main thing
I really wanna learn Tupi but no one speaks it
a language genie appears and offers you a gift:
you get 12 language points™ and get to spend them on languages.
A level costs 1 point.
B level costs 2 points.
C level costs 3 points.
C level with perfect native accent costs 4 points.
Make your choices.

I have a problem where I am interested in many languages, but have trouble deciding one to actually start with. I took two years of Spanish and three years of Latin in high school and was the top student in those classes, writing stories while some were still struggling to pronounce and comprehend simple words, so I know I can learn anything I put my mind to.
>Latin
Already some experience with it. Could be useful on a trip to the Vatican, or reading ancient and medieval texts. Not spoken by many.
>French
Easy with the Latin background, amount of resources, and spoken by many people. Not a fan of the state of Paris atm but maybe it will be cleansed, and other parts of France would be nice to visit. Some beautiful girls. Pronunciation is weird and faggy compared to Latin
>Norwegian
Supposed to be one of the easiest languages for English speakers. Beautiful women and nature in Norway, although most there know English already.
>Scottish or Irish Gaelic
Muh heritage. I liked the countries when i visited before but i know they are not widespread languages. Would be interesting to be one of the few to keep it alive.
>>211665991i wrote a big reply but i realized you're basically retarded and wouldn't benefit from the advice
>>211664319So basically a debate between being perfect in 3 languages or advanced in 4.
Alright, I’m taking perfect Latin, Mandarin, Japanese. I can use the Latin and my new galaxy brain to just figure out Romanx on my own. Plus now I can make a living being the best Latin speaker on the planet and teach online courses from Tokyo while my perfect Mandarin boosts my day career.
>>211665991>Supposed to be one of the easiest languages for English speakersFactoids like this don't apply to you if you're talented. You can learn any IE language and probably lots of others
>latinSounds like you have bad reasons to learn it, forget about it
>frenchFrance is definitely worth visiting, yes even paris
>norwegianThere are beautiful women in plenty of other countries
>celtic languagesCould be cool but you kinda have to go out of your way to actually find people who speak them at a high level. If you want to talk to people in rural places where there isn't much to see, go ahead. Heritage just sounds like copium desu.
If you're dead-set on one of these 5 languages, I'd say just go with French
>>211666714no dead languages. don't try to trick language genie again...

>>211667403italian and french are probably the most beautiful languages. there's nothing gay about it.
>>211667452They sound gay and annoying, I don't think they are beautiful. Imo English sounds better than them.

>>211667570I don't know what that would have to do with anything. I don't think german sounds beautiful as well, but it doesn't annoy me, so I don't know. DESU, I don't find any language beautiful.

>>211664368>>211664368Anything below C is worthless, and you should have at least 1 language at native level otherwise you're a retard no matter what. Assuming your "lose all knowledge" includes NL. Therefore, I am forced to spend 4 points each on English, Chinese, and the last one is tough - Spanish wins on pure speaker count but, while I have lost all existing knowledge, I can still gain new knowledge and spanish is relatively easy to learn from english. Keeping this in mind, it's advantageous to spend my last 4 perfecting a language which is both widely used and is not similar to English or Chinese. Therefore, I must go Arabic. This maximizes both utility and how many hours of study I have saved by employing the genie's magic.

The past few days I've been studying Spanish by reading the youtube comments on a video about Spanish people who moved to Germany to work who ended up hating Germany because apparently Germans are all passive-aggressive racists with unwarranted arrogance. >>211709631Some languages with articles do this and some don't. Possessive adjectives predate the existence of articles in IE languages so some IE languages that have articles today evolved them in such a way that possessive adjectives basically became a type of article alongside the other words that became articles while others kept them as adjectives. In French and Spanish, "mine", "yours" and so on are still strictly adjectives that need an article if used as a noun phrase which you wouldn't do in English. I mean in English you would never say "the yours is good" but you would basically say this in every Romance langauge afaik.

Doing anki sometimes feels like brain surgery or like it's rewiring my brain. I'll be crushing reviews then suddenly remember some random shit I did in like 4th grade that I haven't thought about in forever. It's like trying to store all these new words and symbols in my brain is unlocking dormant memories. I've also noticed I dream more often and the dreams are more vivid than usual. I know it sounds sorta schizo but I swear it's true.
anybody who actually uses anki is 100% a midwit idiot who doesn't undestand that you learn things literally and in context.

Latin study resurfaced much of my high school French even without cognates and all of a sudden I could read stuff again that I couldn’t before. But this is more just general language learning than Anki/SRS.
>>211659578>>211739098>>211738745Actually Latin study and even Chinese randomly made my dormant Spanish input from growing up around spics revive and suddenly I found I could generally comprehend some conversations/vocab that were not cognate with my limited French or Latin knowledge.

Which language has the greatest synergy with learning English from level B to C? French, German, Japanese? How to master English? I was thinking about reading while listening to an audiobook and speaking at the same time
>>211738281>>211738442I know, but I can't decide. I should also master my poor English, but I don't feel like it.
>>211740496Definitely French, but really no language has great synergy with English IMO. If you’re taking about advanced study for high literacy (i.e. expanding your literary vocabulary) then I would say the spelling/phonetic shifts in French renders the immediate carryover into English inferior to Latin.
But overall you’d probably get the most value out of just studying Romance-rooted words *within English* in a dedicated fashion rather than trying to take on an entire new language with substantially different grammar.
IMO the best way to get advanced English is just to read advanced English. In my opinion, linguistic carryover helps the most for intermediate level carryover, since basic stuff is somewhat unintelligible (if it weren’t they wouldn’t be different languages); and advanced stuff can be peculiar to the language in question. For example Latin Tenebris vs. English Tenebrous may hint to the meaning really well, but the usage is totally different since the Latin is a noun and the English is an adjective.
Still though, probably just written Latin, with a focus less on grammar and more of a focus on tackling intermediate texts that prove highly influential on English to just learn as much vocab as possible (so basically the Vulgate).
>>211737802just focus on learning one language three times harder

Probably going to Japan for a few weeks. I have almost exactly 6 months. I’ve had plenty of exposure through media, and I spent a month there before and learned a little while I was there.
I’m like A1 in Chinese right now, so I’m thinking I should totally ignore formal study of Kanji and just learn the readings through input since I’ve already learned a lot of Chinese characters. I’m probably just gonna mix an input/conversation heavy vocab resource (maybe assimil) while making Anki cards for phrases so I can just learn as much internalized usable vocab as quick as possible. If I can rush through Assimil A1 in a little over a few months I guess I can just inputmaxx more after that. I’m just trying to come up with a study method that gives as much practically useful Japanese ASAP while still building that comprehension base so I can have some conversational ability when I’m out there. I’m optimistic, Japanese people are the most open to speaking their language with foreigners of anyone I’ve ever met, last time I was there people were incredibly patient and I had whole conversations understanding maybe 250 words and being able to speak 50 comfortably.
Any advice? Anyone done anything similar? (I.E. rushing comprehension in a language for travel in a way that’s not too intense so as to not hurt other languages or work.) I’m in grad school and already putting an hour a day minimum into Chinese.
Does anyone know how to set up anki with global keys or something so you can do cards in the background while using other applications?
