Because they were the biggest leap in civilization in human history.
Yes, they are romanticized and were in reality brutal psychopats but their influence is so grand, it still permeates our own civilization in a way that hints that Rome's shadow shall be felt for yet more millenia to come.
The city of Rome at its peak would be the equivalent of a modern megacity with 2 billion people. Yes you read that right, 2 billion with a b.
Any man that loves civilization and has the raw human spirit within him, has no choice but to love and long for Roma.
