I drove through the entire state once and don’t remember anything. It’s like a zen garden type vibe. Absolutely fuck all around and even the interstate is mostly empty because the I-80 down south is a better option for the absolute majority of cargo routes.

I used to live there (here >>211689076). There's a divide between the western half ("West River") and the eastern half ("East River"). East River has mostly German ancestry, the biggest city (Sioux Falls), and farmers. It also contains the majority of the population. West River has a large Native American (Lakota) minority, and its white people are Euromutts. Its poor soil means its economy is based on ranching instead of farming.

Extreme poverty, for the Indians anyway. Some of the poorest places in the entire country are Indian reservations in the middle.

There's prairie dogs too. I just remembered seeing a bunch of them as a kid during vacation and they were kind of cute.
