We capitalise nouns so random wouldn't be capitalised here.

Only nouns are capitalized. I.e. things or actions that can have der/die/das/ein/eine as articles.
The reasoning behind this is that names are capitalized, and nouns are names for things.

So in The German Language, The Big in The Barn is at the same Level as The Emperor of Germany?
Written languages usually make a difference between persons and objects/animals, even if they are all technically nouns

Pig is a noun, so it would be capitalized. It's article is not. Gerunds are also nouns, so I would write "Ich komme gerade vom Einkaufen." (I'm just returning from Shopping.)

This hilariously breaks down in English. For example Moon/moon, Earth/earth, Sun/sun. Just donโ€™t bother and make it uniform.
