the attribute "Eastern Europe" is a cold war concept that is to be applied just from 1945 to 1991.
Central European elements like HRE and Habsburg, on the other hand, had lasted at least for more than 700 years, which is more definitive when it comes to the cultural context.

Therefore, Hungary is Central European(historically) and was Eastern European(in the context of 20th century politics)
