This happens in every shithole country with an oligarch ruling class. The elites dangle their wealth in front of their drooling followers like a carrot on a stick. Their followers convince themselves that they too can achieve the same money and power if they just keep toiling all day at their shit jobs that pay next to nothing. The larger and poorer the population the more necessary it becomes for the ruling class to convince the plebs that upwards social mobility is possible to reduce the risk of a potential upheaval. This is why Indians and Brazilians are so obsessed with the idea of meritocracy, most of them have fully drank the kool aid because it numbs that pain of their shit lives.
Those who are smart enough to see past the lies do get angry, and justifiably so, but what are they supposed to do with their anger? They're so few and far between that they can't possibly organize to overthrow the status quo, and even if they tried they'd be beaten down by the drooling masses who believe a revolution is threatening their infinitesimally small chances of "making it" one day.
