not how it works. you don't get the bonus all at once, it is prorated over the length of your contract lmao.
40k split up over 2 paychecks a month, 12 month a year for 4 years. it ends up being just slightly bigger paychecks
and you can't quit, you go awol and thrown in prison

40000/4 years = 10000
10000/12 months in a year = 833
833/2 paychecks a month (army pays on 1st and 15th of each month) = 416
so you get $416 more per paycheck on top of whatever your base pay is (based on your rank and years of service)
it is NOT a $40k lump sum deposited into your account

you can get busted with drugs in your barracks room after it gets raided because a woman said you raped her (happened to a dude in my platoon) and they will kick you out with a dishonorable discharge
knew a guy who purposely did drugs and failed a drug test because he got extremely bad PTSD from some shit he saw in afghanistan that fucked him up. they wouldn't let him out so he decided to just do drugs and get kicked out
or you can do stupid shit like get a DUI and get kicked out.

I've zogged for years now. Marines then Army. It's cool when there's peace time, but as things heat up I worry more and more. If you can, pick intel. Good MOS. Constant don't rape people classes, annoying gassed up women, scumbag NCO's who hate their families so they keep you late for no reason, death by email. It can be hell, but if you do it for the boys, then it's not so bad.
