Climate modeling isn’t just about temperature, if we could 100% model all climate activity you could utilize all agriculture and fishing to near 100% efficiency, min max harvests and fishing trips, avoid damaged products, know of dry periods beforehand etc

It would make food even more abundant than it is now, also has potential in ecological efforts like biodiversity programs

Why would they use it to train LLMs, when Deep Mind and OpenAI are far ahead in the game? Might as well use it to gain a foothold in another part of the field. Modeling the climate sounds like a politically charged publicity stunt at first, but I assume they want to model the entire climate in depth and with a greater accuracy than current models. It could be particularly useful to predict wildfires, since they have become so frequent in yurop, which would let you effectively prevent them.
