I don't understand dutch people.
It's dutch people who still live in south africa, it's dutch people who race mixed with Indonesians to create far right politicians like Gert Wilders. Indonesian is so close to Deutschland despite being so far away just because of dutch colonialism?

We are not German in the sense that we are not part of the modern German nation state. However we are of course West-Germanic and if history went just a bit different we could also have been German (and part of the German state in that scenario).

Low Germans in Germany mostly assimilated into High German which is why they are different compared to you today, but during the middle ages before Luther and the standardization of the German language you were very similiar.
