It’s an easy read, it allows kids to see history through someone their age, it encourages kids to write their own diaries, and its got a sad ending that sort of capitalizes on the fact that some bad shit happened to people that didn’t deserve it (allegedly).
Actually a big part of focusing on the holocaust in America I’ve noticed is less a focus on the racial or religious aspect and more on the “this is what the government can do to fuck your life” which resonates with a lot of Americans. We focus the same on communism too.
