I don't think the US will intervene, As i see it one of the initial tactics was to let Israel streamroll Iran, If successful, escalate the strategical intention of destroying their nuclear program to actually threaten the Mullah leadership, And then find middle ground through negotiations to dismantle their nuclear plans and efforts for good.
But if the Mullah want to act suicidal the US will have to join and finish the job, It'll be extremely stupid not to.

Most states have somekinda groundedness in their region and its collective history. They were all part of a single empire at some point before colonial powers left them discrete borders and division and a larger more intricate state apparatus.
