I suppose I "love animals" by being vegan, but it's more of a dispassionate attempt to reduce suffering in the world. Most people who say they "love animals" means something like they treat dogs like humans, attributing higher forms of agency or even language capacity to them (often while, at the same time, they keep them penned up in a small yard or house and never train them), and the same people generally gladly take part in systems that cause immense animal suffering. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.
