I write songs based on divisions of 4. I use rhyme schemes such as AAAA AABB ABAB for each verse or chorus section.
Whole song structure pattern:
ABABCABC
- A = verse
- B = chorus
- C = solo
- Verse (16 bars)
- Chorus (16 bars)
- Verse (16 bars)
- Chorus (16 bars)
- Solo (32 bars)
- Verse (16 bars)
- Chorus (16 bars)
- Solo (32 bars)
I do 4 lines of poetry over 16 bars of a drum machine for a typical verse or chorus. It’s an extension of beats / bars w drums.
- 4 beats to a bar
- 4 bars to a line of poetry
- 4 lines of poetry to a section
Example verse:
- I spend all day in my ripped blue JEANS
- Smoking a joint of homegrown blue DREAM
- Put on my head phones listen to QUEEN
- Float away relax and float DOWNSTREAM
Would be 16 bars w 4 bars each line. It’s about the rhyme on the end and the matching meter of each line and spacing it evenly in blocks of time. It’s inspired by thinking of a computer chip like 8 16 32 64
They’re called couplets in pottery it’s like mathematical
