Probably because it's fucking cold in the Netherlands in early Spring or Winter, especially at the beach.
I was at the outdoor public pool today. My watch tells me I supposedly burned 1,000 extra calories through swimming.
Which got me thinking, I don't get why fat people even exist in warm countries.
I usually put on a few pounds between Fall and Spring due to lack of movement and bad mood. During the few months per year in which the German weather isn't too cold to do anything outdoors without heavy clothing, I spend most of my spare time hiking, cycling, swimming or playing games outside. I cannot imagine ever getting fat if I could do this all year round.
Also, you don't have to spend thousands of dollars every year to heat your apartment just so you don't freeze.
