I heard that people who do this tend to gain more weight because they snack and overeat at lunch.

More often than not. I skipped breakfast for a few years, but find that I feel better and absent-mindedly snack on less garbage if I get three actual meals a day.

I didnโ€™t get around to it today, unfortunately. But Iโ€™ll have an early lunch and settle for that.

I absolutely snack more when I skip meals. But diligent/controlled intermittent fasting can make some people lose weight, just because theyโ€™re taking in fewer calories overall.

I donโ€™t know if itโ€™s always the healthiest approach (some people are naturally prone to significant hypoglycemia when fasting, which sucks in many ways, and the glycogenic response to low blood sugar can actually stimulate the growth of fat), but it can certainly be made to work.
