Well yeah there are a handful of positions like that but at the end of the day the issue is that the private sector will hire who they will hire and that's that. Things are becoming more digital and centralised, jobs vanish by the day. Tax hikes just make it harder for them to hire people, so you get even less positions then. That then feeds into the cycle of more jobless people needing bennies which come from taxes and so on and so on. We are in a death spiral.

The conversation ends there and a mental note is forever placed within their mind that you're worthless dreck never to be spoken to or cared about again.

Conversely, even if you have an absolutely shite job that pays fuck all and has no prestige, the same people who write off the unemployed will consider you human. And the reverse is true of getting a job. If you have a big job history gap or have never worked and are not very early 20s, you are basically fucked. The only way I got my first job was because I knew someone who could hire me. Meanwhile, people with a decent work history can generally find work fairly easily and if you want to switch fields there are tons of courses you can go on.

You end up getting funnelled into the "you can work and are desirable to hire so you WILL work" and "you are probably fucked so just claim bennies" pipelines. It's very hard to go from one to the other.

The common argument is that working doesn't pay. Or rather, it's so expensive to live that even working full-time doesn't grant one the ability to do so on a single income.

For the record I do work but it's only financially viable for me because I rent from the council and it's insanely cheap. If I were in a private rental that was £800 a month it wouldn't be feasible at all. Obviously if you have a gf to split the bills with then that makes it a whole lot easier but for the modern virginous man that often isn't an option.

If you're working part time there's zero incentive to tell people you claim top up benefits. Tell them you work doing whatever it is you do. As far as they're concerned, the work you do is what pays 100% of your bills. No need to let them view you as a benefit claimant.
