I can't imagine having to head back to your apartment on a hot, sticky summer afternoon only for it to be just as hot and sticky inside and all you have to cool yourself down is opening the windows and as many fans as you can afford to run.
I once stayed a couple nights at a hostel in Cadiz and it was unbearable. There was no AC, no fans, and nothing but a single window that opened up into a tiny third story central lightwell that did absolutely nothing to regulate the stale air in the room. It had to have been at least 80 degrees inside, my bed was totally drenched in sweat after just a few minutes of trying to fall asleep. I eventually fave up and slept in a secluded corner of the stairwell.
