It's an American meme from around the WWII era when burgers were stationed there en masse. It has persisted because until relatively recently Brits didn't get those big fake capped teeth American celebs love. Nowadays the meme is mostly pushed by brown people.

There are literally trillions of pictures with different average british out there and they all have terrible teeth

I read that it was because British dental medicine focused more on the health of the teeth than the aesthetic appeal of them so less people got orthodontic work so they had wacky but healthy teeth. Not sure how true it is.
