In the USA, Latinos strongly identify as "nonwhite" and see themselves as being fundamentally different from the "whites", the same way Asians or Africans might

But i don't get the same feeling from latinos within Latin America. Do they see it differently?

You gotta understand that the classification inside latam is based on the average color inside the country. If you're whiter than 80% of the population you're considered white, even though you might not be totally caucasian.

White in Latin America is just a gradient spectrum from brown to slightly less brown. I don’t even mean this as an offense it’s just how it is.
