In Numbers 20:7-13, the Lord instructs Moses and Aaron to speak to a rock so that it will release water for the people and their animals, but Moses, instead of speaking, strikes the rock twice with his rod. Because of this, Moses and Aaron are told that they will not enter the Promised Land.

Imagine being tired and thirsty and hearing from God himself the rocks all around you have been holding out on water this whole time. You'd probably strike it too.
