In a 1990's (and pre-1990's) America I would agree. Now, it would just be a way for the usual degenerates to ruin things. Plus, they would probably ban firearms on them, which is a huge problem for law abiding citizens in America. Not to mention the fact that greedy motherfuckers have made it impossible to make discerning upgrades to our infrastructure, let alone basic maintenance.

Denver and Salt Lake City are 800km apart. Albruquereq or however the fuck you spell it is 720km. Phoenix is 1400km. For comparison, 1300km is the distance between Brussels and Warsaw. But unlike Denver-Phoenix, there’s like 20 major cities on route.

It doesn’t look like a good ROI. All this infrastructure just to connect like 4 cities. The same length of rail in yurop would serve 20 as I said. The Rockies are just barely populated. The only three places where HSR is sensible are the Northeast, Cali, and Florida.

This is why colonization would be good. Economically it’s not feasible to pay 6 gorillian trillion dollars for it, but what America can do is
>Invade a country and take the resources needed to build the trains by force , using the army and corps of engineers for logistics, guarding, and transport
>Create a system of consensual worker-slaves , probably foreigners , and offer them automatic citizenship once the train project is completed. Can also consider using convicts with the stipulation being automic erasure of their criminal record
>all food and shelter is provided but no payment to the work force
And there you go. Just solved all our problems that “muh free markets” are too pussy to do. You need strength and vision to get such a project done. Not just “muh shareholders, muh blackrock, muh Larry fincklesteinberg”

>muh innefficient short haul flights
A plane goes at 1000km/h. HSR in Spain goes 300km/h max. Literally three times difference. A plane from Denver to Phoenix takes an hour (because the distance is smaller than the highway that goes around). An HSR that magically goes through all the fucking Rockies in the way would take three. Realistically it’d be 6 hours because, as I said, there’s fucking mountains in the way. Even if you account for driving to DIA, waiting in lines, etc, it’s still less time than trains and doesn’t require a massive infrastructure to maintain. What you’re proposing is objectively retarded.
