>>211980204 (OP)>Why are Americans uniquely like this? It's virtually impossible to suffer in America so people fantasize about imaginary scenarios in which they'd be forced to lower the quality of their lives.
Look up that terrible Civil War movie that released a couple years ago. The plot is about the American government fracturing and a massive war breaking out across America (they barely even elaborate why this happened, it sucks). The reason this movie was so successful is because it catered to the American fantasy of being a victim. We're so used to our lifestyle of constant comfort and excess that we're desperate to create a world where all of that gets stripped away. Media set in dystopian futures or stories involving rebellions will always be extremely possible in America.
I think it's the same reason why this country refuses to get over 9/11. It was one moment where America was truly vulnerable and received sympathy from all other nations. You don't see Norway still trying to farm sympathy points for what Anders Breivik did or Japan for Fukashima.
