We're aware that there are all kinds of Croatians and we do sometimes talk about it casually, but it's never really about race or purity, it's just a casual topic among friends and family.
My mother and sister look like typical Europeans and my dad and I are light brown. Funny enough, my grandma (dad's mom) is blonde and blue eyed so I don't know why he's brown. My point is we all look quite different, and in America my dad and I would probably be considered brown, and some other members of my family would be seen as white.
Where I'm from we often call swarthier Croats "black" and lighter Croats with blond hair "yellow", but we're all considered 100% Croatian.
