What I noticed in America at both my hotels, the restaurants and a couple sandwich shops was how sweet their bread is. Pretty sure it would count as a pastry here and not bread. Even their "full grain" stuff was packed with sugar.
I did find one shop selling organic shit and they actual good fresh bread but it was fucking expensive. Like $5 for a small loaf.

Americans don't eat bread by itself so we didn't develop le bread culture. You can still get quality bread at a bakery and even our supermarkets bake bread and have in house slicing machines so you can cut your loaf before going home but no one wants to eat pb&j on rye or black bread.

Barely any compared to here in Europe. I struggled to find one when I visited and I was in multiple cities.
Even here in Sweden there's one or two on each block and that's nothing compared to most of Europe.
