>>211990984 (OP)I have been to shenzhen, china's technology and infrastructure is more impressive for sure
but it just feels like a pain to walk, everything is far away
in fact much of "modernity" and "technology" is just a major pain in the ass in certain ways
I don't want to use wechat for digital payment, I don't want to bring a phone with me around 24/7
we don't need high speed rail, every inch of land is properly designed so everything we need is close to us
I don't want franchise restaurants with the latest marketing design language used everywhere, I want to eat at the shitty kino restaurant that serves a simple cheap and hearty meal
I don't want social media, don't care about electric cars, don't care automated buses or AI delivery drones
In my impression, a nation becomes reaches peak when every single person can find/has value in life. I don't know how much "value" a chinese person has in china. But in singapore, there is something happening beneath. people are starting to become more kind, there are daily optimistic news regarding people. The value of human life in singapore is gradually increasing
