I don't know man some stuff from Gintama made me choke on my food more than once, others fell flat. There are certain humor elements you can't translate to other languages due to translating issue and cultural context, there are a lot of good Lithuanian and Russian satirical and humoristic works which English speakers will never understand.

Father isn't a thing in the first anime, but Jesus is. There's a parallel Earth based on ours and Ed gets trapped on this planet in the last episode when he brings back Al's body, as payment for the exchange. Then there's a movie about nazis who want to invade the FMA planet which then gets Ed transported back to his own reality and Hitler himself makes a very short cameo. Pretty whacky but enjoyable overall.

These are all good anime, but I feel like this kind of a favorite list is really tryhard. It's like almost purposefully designed to make it as uncontroversial as possible so people won't clown on you, so it'd be a lot more interesting if instead it was just anime that spoke to you personally even if you knew not all of them are "good" in an objective sense

Yeah I'm not disagreeing that all of those are good universally loved anime. I've heard some people (half-jokingly) shit on Parasyte or Gunbuster, but by in large yeah there's nothing wrong with any of those shows.
But that's my point, it's like you took a list of all the universally loved anime, and then selected from it 10 shows to show off that you have a varied taste in anime. Imo Lain would fit in pretty well with those shows actually. Old mecha would maybe come off tryhard, unless you had a lot of older mecha shows in which case I'd just assume you like mecha.
