I just saw 頼もしい written with も, but I feel like I've heard it said many times as たのましい, with a ま。Have I just misheard it all this time? jisho.org has an entry for 頼もしい、but not for たのましい。

Can you guys confirm that Japanese dual citizens exist? Like there’s no way for them to know someone forfeited their other citizenship or if they don’t care enough to crack down on it? The only one I know had to was that Blasian tennis player and that’s only because she was a cultural phenomena of being a black American jap and her constant disputes with the public about her values
I’m asking because I’m reading that there are many Japanese citizens (native and gaijans) with dual citizenships and they just don’t tell the gov that they dropped the other passport. I’d ask Japanese general but it doesn’t exist on the catalog
>>212048766Dual nationality in Japan mainly becomes an issue if you decide to enter Japanese politics. Renho Saito only gave up her Taiwanese citizenship 49 years after she was born in the year 2016.
>Democratic Party President Renho released official documents to confirm that she has renounced her Taiwanese citizenship in the hope of putting the lingering controversy to rest. She also hopes the move will reinvigorate her party’s sagging political fortunes after the dual citizenship issue was blamed by some for poor showings at the polls. But her action was slammed by some experts who suggested it could fuel racism and discrimination by setting a precedent for top politicians feeling obliged to reveal personal information on their origin.>Renho, 49, was born in Japan to a Taiwanese father and Japanese mother. At a news conference on July 18, she presented six pieces of paper to clarify her status as a Japanese citizen. Among the documents were part of a family register showing her Japanese nationality selection declaration, dated Oct. 7, 2016, a certificate issued by Taiwan permitting her to renounce her Taiwanese citizenship, and Justice Ministry correspondence. “Family register documents should not be disclosed under normal circumstances, but it is not good that the credibility of the president of the Democratic Party has been eroding (due to the nationality issue),” she said at the news conference. “I decided to disclose the documents, in light of my position to pursue the accountability of the administration.”>When she ran for the presidential election of the party last year, she claimed she has been Japanese since she was born and had given up her Taiwanese citizenship. But she was forced to change her story several times after reports emerged that her Taiwanese citizenship was not officially renounced. Renho consequently took steps to renounce her Taiwanese citizenship and swear Japanese nationality.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renh%C5%8D

>>212068978Speaking of kakuyomu (かく = writing, よむ = reading), the work that impressed me the most is a diary kept by a science fiction writer who suffered irreversible brain damage as his condition worsened. He stated that he could no longer do even simple addition, and as the months went by, he gradually lost the ability to write even in Japanese, and it became meaningless in the end. It is as if the process of one soul burning away to ashes still remains crystallized in those words.

>>212073083Sorry, you are right and I was incorrect. His writing became progressively more erroneous or ambiguous, and after the last post on kakuyomu, he began to post exclusively on Twitter, which was the only place he could express himself in the last part of his life, but many of his tweets were retweets, which seemed random and his intent was often unclear. He got completely silent at the end.

Legit makes me have autistic meltdowns when I’m ankigooning and I can’t remember the readings of all the Kanji in a sample sentence.
Also I found a great new channel for inputting on youtube called Jiro Just Japanese, where it’s just some Japanese guy talking about whatever he wants for an hour straight with JP subs and popup vocab.
>>212079118Cure Dolly has been great for me as a companion to Tae Kim not because I’m getting more information really but because of the way she makes Japanese grammar something you can picture in your mind in a way that’s easy to remember. It’s basically the same principle behind why RTK (and all derivative mnemonics based methods) work well for firmly remembering things.
Anyone have any advice on graded readers? I’m working through Kaishi 1.5k on Anki right now and I’d like something to help practice my current level of vocab that I can use as I try to build a vocabulary bridge across the language barrier to reach Yotsuba on the other side.
>>212084501I haven't read tae kim, do you recommend doing so or just watching cure dolly is enough?

>>212085583I have no idea. I’m not done. I find CD/TK + Ankigooning + Inputting 10x more fun than Genki though. At the end of the day, I’m doing this for fun. If it’s not fun, why bother? Or more specifically, if the method isn’t fun, why not do a more fun method? I just want to watch unsubbed Jap stuff and follow it well enough. Chinese is where the true grind lies since the grammar is simpler (and therefore actually less intuitive/logical and thus harder) plus there’s more characters and less content to input. Plus Chinese matters for my work future probably, and Japanese probably does not. But I like Japanese.
