Burgers were right about A/C.

They were right to laugh at yuropoors. We should have listened. But we didn't.

AC is very cheap in your country.
In my country, the price of a typical PC monitor is around this.
>24 to 27"
>1920x1080
>180 to 200Hz
>GtoG 0.5 to 1.0ms
around €95 to €214

AC is €300 for the cheapest one + €120 for installation
Large one for living room, about €3000 if you need to drill a hole in the outside wall or something.

Most Euros live in rented apartments.
You're not allowed to randomly drill holes in the wall to install AC.
Some landlords will allow it if it's professionally done but that's rare.
Like my first apartment was in a "commieblock" from the 60's. We're talking 40cm++ of concrete walls. So it's not even possible to begin with.

why are people shitting on portable ACs ITT? they're not as efficient as window units but they're still great in a pinch. my central AC was dead for a week earlier this month and the only reason I didn't burn to death was I bought a 10000BTU for like $400 that kept my bedroom somewhat tolerable like 78f when the rest of the house was 90. even after my AC was fixed I've kept it to cool a part of my house where the AC doesn't reach and it's worked great.

This type of AC is limited to "30m2" at best, which is the most you can comfortably do.
But it is better than nothing.
Also, the insulation of the pipe itself and the way it exhausts the heat will make a big difference.

To be fair, most apartments and homes here were built long before AC was even needed.
Summers are much hotter now and it's too late.
Maybe 1 in 500 apartments have AC (and I am being generous now) because most places were built in the 60's, 70's and 80's. That's like 80% of Swedish apartments.
And our landlords aren't like a single dude owning a bunch of apartments.
It's all mega-corpos owning thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of apartments and entire blocks like Heimstaden, Balder, SBB, Hyresbostäder and Svenska Bostäder.
I rent via Svenska Bostäder and they own over 50 000 apartments in Sweden that they rent out.
They have very strict rules when it comes to home modifications. You have to ask for permission if you want to paint the walls...
From their own rules on the website "du får måla om i din lägenhet hos Svenska Bostäder, så länge det utförs fackmannamässigt och med godkända färger" (You can repaint your apartment at Svenska Bostäder, as long as it is done professionally by Swedish standards and with approved colors)...

do you have a water meter? if not use tap water, either to cool down the ac condenser or straight through a fancoil. an old car radiator or simmilar might even work.

my workplace has shitty cheap walls and without ac it gets absolutely unbearable a few hours after the sun appears
meanwhile at home, i sit in a room with windows facing south, but the walls are thick and built from stone, so i don't even have to turn on a fan to stay comfortable; the difference is enormous

>Can't you save bit by bit and build yourself a nice little house far from the expensive cities?
The house part is no problem. I could probably save up and buy one of those pre-fab homes for €90k.
Problem is the land. Taking out a loan to buy a home is easy. Taking out a loan to buy land is far more complicated (for some retarded reason). And then there's building permits, costs for sewage, water, electricity, internet and registration.
That's why most people buy old homes with all of that done here.
But I can't commute long either since I am not allowed to drive (epilepsy)..

I'm just fucked.

About 40 years ago, many types were mounted on windows, but few are available today.
They are used by people whose rent is like $100/month .
but recently they are becoming more popular for garages and in areas in the north where AC was not needed before.

still have or used to have epilepsy?
im the latter and it was a struggle, moppe license at 16, full medical check, car license at 18, full medical check, army at 19, now my specialust doctor had died so the army doctor just reviewed my two last cases and deleted the note that i had once had epilepsy from my record for good. the rule here is 5 years without seizures and you are deemed fit to drive. most like me and i knew a few others as well grew out of it but its always a risk it can return with an unhealthy lifestyle, drug abuse particulary worsen it.

no it was to you. you have unlimited supply of cooling fluid in your tap, as long as you dont have to pay for it.

I have "repetitive cluster seizures" even on medication with are small tremors, muscle jerks and muscle cramps several times per day. I am banned from driving completely since i was diagnosed in 2013.
Without medication I have grand mal seizures.Though I still get those randomly once or twice per year.
Cracked two of my teeth last year during one.

You can remove them yourself broder. I did that in my apartment. Just unscrew the tip, look underneath and there will be a metal mesh filter thing you can rip out.
Did that in my kitchen and bathroom taps plus the shower.

Pressure went from zero to power washer.

Got a heat pump last year for 4800€. I'm comfy between 19 and 27 degrees so I'm not using it much. Above 30 is a lil high though
