Daaaamn. You Scandinavians are the only people whose costs of living can make ours look cheap. We’ve always had fairly cheap booze at the retail level, though; I think a 70cl bottle of name-brand stuff is only around $22, and there are cheaper options and sales.

I was surprised to learn that tobacco is also cheaper here than in some places; it’s always seemed expensive. I guess we’re not interested in sin taxes.

Does the high price and restricted availability of alcohol successfully reduce your countrymen’s risk of drinking themselves to death? We are pretty drunken, but our cirrhosis rates remain lower than in France.

I can get 750ml of vodka for $8.95 and it's not even the cheapest one. It might legitimately be cheaper for you to fly here and bring back a suitcase full of booze.

Even the finest vodka kills you slowly; alcohol is literally poisonous. But at least you can’t taste the higher-qualify vodka while it’s doing it.

alkohol isnt really a cost of living since most here dont drink daily.
the tax on a 1L of vodka is about 36€ and thats a flat rate, purchase price doesnt matter. its bad for vodka but for other booze it might be in our favour, if the profit is 50% for a retailer then that can and will go above our flat tax.
