I should explain, St Andrew was crucified on a cross that was serrated in order to maximise his torment, hence the jaggedness of the Spanish flag. The Burgundians, as I understand, adopted the St Andrew's Cross in regard to the Scots, and then with the collapse of the Burgundian State, the symbol was adopted by the Spanish who inherited most of the Burgundian lands.
