I've always been impressed by those big American suburbs I saw in my movies. Meanwhile Europe does nothing for me. Some places in Europe look very similtar to what we have here. The only decent places are those neighborhoods in Scandinavia that look like American suburbs.

That's one reason I could never live in US. Those sterile and manufactured neighborhoods all in this organized array, with every bit of green meticulously trimmed to keep anything from looking natural, giving it an eerie cardboard-cutout atmosphere.
The roads taking half the open space, with private yards taking the other half leaving you with just a bit of a concrete path to exist on as you make your way through the labyrinth dying of thirst, but between all the prefabricated single-family houses not a single shop is in sight, not even a mini-market, instead just paranoid Americans mowing their lawns and staring at you, the stranger, making sure you don't do anything suspicious.
Such an environment would surely lead to my eventual suicide.

we have thoose as well, it dictates that each house must be 4m from the border (can be adjusted) and minimum 8m from any neighbour (cannot be adjusted). try that in an american suburb and it means every second house has to be removed. it doesnt tell anything on how your house is located on the property and most will do a 90 or even 180 degree of the house compared to the american standard. no one wants every neighbour to see every time you open your door.

Even in a house I would spend all the time in the same room, I don't get this obsession

zoning laws dictate that your property must be X ft from property line, it it is literally illegal to build your house right next to the road. City ordinance most of the time might have some issue with you having a garden, fence or anything but a lawn. Also there's the whole idea of curb appeal, how the resale value of your house is tied to how it appears from the sidewalk, somehow it means your house need to be in clear view of everything else so an open space in front your house is the only acceptable way.
