Strange career nonetheless. When it first came out in November 1988 it was meant to strike command posts and military reserves deep behind enemy lines in the Warsaw Pact. All it did was basically cameo appearances in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq until they came at the center of the world's stage a few days ago. Trump's decision to send them might have to do with the need to make the b2s profitable.

They "failed' the mission in Iran but think about it. Trump don't want to piss off Putin but at the same time must obey Israel. Hence he sends the bomber as a performative gesture. It's even possible he leaked the attack to Iran via Russia beforehand.

the point of those planes is that they're hard to track on radar, good for sneaking behind enemy lines and wrecking important targets
the countries the US tends to smack around rarely have air defenses though, and even when they do, they usually destroy those very early on, so the whole advantage the B2 has becomes irrelevant

HOWEVER they still use them constantly, you only recently hearing about their use doesn't mean they weren't flying sorties regularly for years, it just means it's been propagandized on social media a lot recently, and you fell for it
the US also doesn't and will never sell the B2s, where are you getting this "make them profitable" meme? they also have a bunch of mothballed warships, much more expensive than any plane, but they're not "putting them to work" either

b52 looks outdated af, but the reason they keep them is they know most enemies dont have anti air or they are so confident they can strike it out while the b52's are en route. b2 are only used for supprise bombings and such.

thats an inflated number. its the hours requred to make every plane as good as new after every flight on an average, and its often done so meaning that every plane is still as good as new. it doesnt in any way tell you about the actual field service or turnaround rate of these planes, it can be minutes because they are well maintained and everything just work. the 80h++ service will be done once the operation is over.
east block often advertice their planes on the lowest minimum maintendance, the problem with it is they never see more than minimum maintendance.
