Seems like they're mostly used as non patrol and detectives vehicles but I still see them about and they still look to be in good condition with good trim and paint. Not a poorfag town either. There are two types of police in Russia:
Police and Rosgvardia (heavy police) (in pic).
Police functions are standard, as in other countries.
Weapons: Usually Makarov pistol and submachine gun (PP-91)
Vehicle: Standard passenger car or SUV (in rural areas).

Rosgvardiya (heavy police) functions:
Street perimeter security around kindergartens, schools, nuclear power plants, hospitals and other strategic facilities.
Weapons: PP-91, PP OTs “Kiparis”, PP “Bison”, SR-3, various heavy weapons, including RPG-7 - in especially dangerous areas of Chechnya.
Transportation: standard passenger car, SUV, armored APC.

We have a national police force (RCMP), many provincial forces, and even municipal - like my city does.
Interceptor models based on the Crown Vic, Charger, and Explorer are popular, but we don't seem to have any real standard. The OPP and a few municipalities in southern Ontario are getting a bit crazy with the undercover vehicles. I've seen E350 rape vans, beat up Chev 1500's, Fiats, Civics, and an old VW Beetle with the blues and reds flashing in the past six months.

The one I posted earlier is called Polícia Rodoviária, which also roughly translates to road police. They mainly monitor federal highways and are technically a police force, they carry guns and engage in pursuits.
At the state level, we have something called "Detran" (no translation). Technically, they aren't a police force, they don't carry guns or engage in pursuits but they'll still ticket the shit out of you. They use these ugly bright yellow and black cars.

it seems like a thirdie/secondie thing to have multiple police forces. i can only imagine how much corruption happends when there are 5+ different units and none really know what the other is doing. do they ever arrest or fine each other? can all of them fine you one time each for the same offence?
closest we have is border customs, they have a limited police right but everything they do in terms of police work must be confirmed by a police officer. they can drug test at the border and hold you back by force but a police offiser has to come and do the actual arrest. they have pursuit vehicles for if someone run the border, but they cant do an actual pursuit they just follow from a distance and have cops ahead pull them over. such things.

That's why I asked because my biggest point of reference is the US, and from their media and footage I see online, it's usually the local cops giving tickets. Which is a bit weird to me because here the cops almost never ticket people, it's usually the Detran or the Federal Road Police.

>>212145973
Ah ok.
So those traffic cops, do they go though police academy or are they more like private company crap?
Here in the Nordics we only have on police force and they all get the same training, education, equipment except when accepted into advanced teams (like previously mentioned bomb squads and stuff).
But the absolute basic cop is the ones who do everything. From traffic stops, driving drunks to the drunk tank, having shootouts with criminals and helping sick/injured if first on scene. Just normal police.

the veirdest thing i see on movies and such is how they just race across state lines and suddenly the police stops and no longer care
>outside of my jurisdiction
its not so well know but atleast between the two of us, maybe finland too, a cop can continue a pursuit into the other country. obviously that countrys police must be alerted but the jurisdiction of norwegian bolis goes far into sweden and vice versa if they are in active pursuit. for legal reasons an arrest must be overseen and approved by said countrys police but they can be brought back across the border and be processed and charged by the laws of the country where they did the crime without further bs.
and its just the normal everyday local cops.

There are three basic police forces/entities that can interact with traffic here:

The Military Police. Basically your local police force, like the one you mentioned. They can do a bit of everything, from pursuing criminals and handling drunk drivers to ticketing people. Most of the time, they will be dealing with criminals. Each state has their own branch.

The Federal Road Police. While they can handle criminals, the vast majority of the time they’ll be pursuing people speeding and handling tickets. Same branch across the entire country.

Detran. Basically the "traffic cops". They just manage local traffic within a city or town and ticket people. They will never engage criminals or pursue anyone speeding, for that they contact the proper police force. Each state has their own branch.

Training-wise in terms of rigidity it goes: Military Police > Federal Road Police > Detran.

Actually it depends here anons.
If you get caught driving extremely drunk or hurting someone while driving because of drugs or being retarded you can have a "total driving ban" which is basically a complete ban from all motorized vehicles.

Happened to my uncle. He drove into a telephone booth, lost control and smashed into a taxi in 2004 and lost all his rights to drive.
He had two empty bottles of Brännvin Special (30% liquor) in the car and a blood alcohol level of 3.0 promille (not sure what that is in English).

Depends on the type of the crime. For example, a colombian commits a crime in Brazil then flees to Colombia and is caught by our cops there, depending on the type of crime our cops can negotiate for the colombian to be extradited to brazil so he can be judged under our laws and serve time here.
But these are edge cases and like you said, the cops of both countries usually know each other near the border.
