How come baseball got discretely popular in Asia?
I remember watching this anime named "Tommy Star of the Giants" when I was a kid and it was hilariously different from American baseball movies, the MC would undergo absurd trainings to please his father who didn't make it, they made baseball look cool somehow

Asians are famously unathletic and baseball isn't really a sport

stop saying "Asia" which is an entire continent with 6 BILLION people in it with varying populations. It is popular in S Korea, Japan, and semipopular in Taiwan which combined have a population of less than 200 Million.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm ... I wonder what these countries have in common. In case the answer is too hard ... they were invaded by the US and are basically American vassal states. They are used by the US to counter the country they fear the most which is CHINA.

it got popular in japan when the americans started making bases there after the war. The military would run these baseball games to keep morale up and since there isn't much to do in terms of leisure in a post-war country, the locals would go and watch these games. Eventually they started playing aswell and the sport just became part of their post war culture.

In the US because of the large South Asian population, if you say "Asian", it does mean India and PakistaN

India is India, but many here are familiar with Bangladeshi immigrants so the whole region occasionally becomes "Bangladesh"
