Didn't deny it. Hezbollah got cocky. The whole 'participating without committing' shit is why Syria lost the Golan in '67, too. Back then Assad (being an insubordinate shit and disobeying the Syrian Prime Minister) only ordered limited airstrikes on a handful of Israeli positions, instead of launching an actual offensive. This didn't do anything to degrade Israel's fighting ability, and only gave them the excuse to retaliate and the time to prepare to do so overwhelmingly. Same shit we saw with Hezbollah.
Like, yeah, you can complain about how disproportionate and illegal the response is, but that only does anything if the UN or someone else is willing to intervene on your behalf. The UN was willing to intervene for Egypt because Egypt actually held it's key objectives while the Israelis were overstretched, but they didn't intervene for Syria because it utterly failed at it's objectives, which gave them no wiggle room to force Israel's hand. Same shit with Hezbollah, who was also breaking international law anyway.
