The first time I got to fire a .303 at some targets I didn't put the ear plug in my right ear correctly and had ringing for 2 days, the sound of water running out of a tap and a boiling kettle physically hurt to hear.

Never fired any really high pressure rounds but I've fired plenty of pistol and shotgun without ear protection and my tinnitus is loud and constant lol

I've never seen people use hearing protection for shotguns here but then they aren't firing them constantly, definitely don't fuck around with bigger rounds or you'll blow out an ear drum. Makes you wonder how every soldier didn't go completely deaf in the first few world wars.
