the majority might have spoken Italian but they were of Slavic ethnic origin, simply Italian was the official language so if a Slav wanted to live in the city he had to embrace the Italian language as his own

but the outskirts, farmers, working class etc were majority Slavic-speaking all the way until WW2

Not giving Trieste to Yugoslavia was the biggest mistake of the Allied Powers, we could have avoided brutal oppression of Italians in other parts of Yugoslavia + there wouldn't have been Balkan wars

actually i am kinda curious what "historyless" nations learn about at their history classes

let's assume you have 7-8 grades in a primary school in Slovenia, probably 2 history classes per week, how tf can you fill all that time with Slovene history, if it can be easily condensed into a max 2 hour long lecture?
Anonymous Slovenia No.212216294 [Report] >>212216406

My guess is they teach European history and then just briefly mention what the Slovene Lands were doing at a given time

>focuses on various empires Slovenia was part of and roles of Slovenes in those societies
do you even have enough sources for that? Slovenes were mostly peasants afaik, these people didn't write too much and their life wasn't widely discussed and written down either. What can you even discuss about the role of Slovenes in 16th century Austria if probably there is not a single written source that mentions any Slovene person and his achievements or even just daily life, that was the same like the daily life of every European peasant - that's why history classes are mostly about the history of elites - but in case of Slovenia you didn't have these elites

They had 5 peasant revolts. They shared one of them with us (the Croatian-Slovene Peasant Revolt of 1573)

You're right, there aren't many sources so it's often just a brief mention based on educated guesswork, but they teach us what little they can. People here aren't under some delusion of us having great history, you can say what you want about us but at least we are levelheaded when it comes to that unlike some other nations with their fabricated larp histories
>>212216469
This is one of the two biggest focuses of our history classes when it comes to actual Slovene history, the other one being protestantism which lead to a first book in our language

do you wish Slovenes had become a protestant nation?

btw, Slovene history is interesting to me not just because of its historical events one by one but just the whole fact...that Slovenes exist. It's kinda unbelievable that an area that was always part of Austria, resisted germanization almost completely, "losing" to Germans only the northernmost strip (Klagenfurt), while so many areas the Germans merely occupied or owned for a much shorter period of time in eastern Europe were germanized to the ground or at least Germans tried to germanize them with fire and sword.

afaik Austrians did try forced germanization in various periods of time (especially during Joseph II) just they were rather ineffective comparing to Prussians (desu that applies to pretty much every kind of comparison between Austrians and Prussians)
