Always mystified me how this destroyed an emperor's divine image. Sure he looks like an unattractive dork, but MacArthur isn't a looker either, has a lazy eye and his uniform looks like shit.
It really just came down to a heightmogging. The entire course of a nation altered because the people saw their leader looking short. He's probably not even below average for a jap, he just had the misfortune of standing next to a slightly tall white man.

who says it was destroyed? it's still strong and ongoing. japs are still superstitious, thinks highly of their royal family, shintoism is still common, society is still leaning more towards traditions etc.
