>Start telling their personal stuff to random strangers and asking them personal questions for absolutely no reason.

Why are they like this?

i dont do this, i dont trust anyone. I don't try to get to know anyone either. I enjoy being alone with no friends. My social contact is via /int/, that's all I need

What do you define as personal stuff? Ideas of openess can vary between cultures.

You're dealing with a very unrepresentative demographic of americans. Younger/whiter/working class americans are very taciturn, introverted, reserved, even more so than europeans. 90% of the people I know irl are like this. The super extroverted/making conversation with randos culture is rapidly dying out. I lived in Germany for 2 years and, opposite of stereotypes, I was the one who was overly reserved while the Germans I met were comparatively gregarious and were the ones initiating conversation with me.

you are at the gas station and ask the random guy:

how are you are you having a good day? I had quite a stressful day and proceed to tell him how was ur day, what u did, then u ask him ar eu married etc etc

again, there's a massive younger-older divide. Previous generations absolutely were and are like this, but not gen Z.

But this isn't just america. Old people in scotland will randomly come up to to you and start asking you questions and making conversation, while younger generations won't.

This has been my experience. A lot of your Gen Alpha kids seem borderline unsocialised, though to be fair I don't know any UK kids of that age group to compare.

Social etiquette demands that you must pretend to be interested in strangers lives regardless if you actually care or not. Unfortunately there are some people who think a "how are you" mean that it's ok to discuss every issue in their life and there nothing you can do except sit thru it.

We call it small talk. Nobody actually gives a shit what you're tallking about. The hope is one of you is funny or interesting enough to make the conversation worthwhile. Or find out if they have a business or some shit, it doesn't matter. It's chit-chat. You're overthinking it.
