northern latitudes have fewer sun hours in the winter and even in the summer the uv light is more scattered the further north you go.
no vitamin d will make you sick physically and mentally. if your melatonin production is out of whack then so is your sleep. if you don't sleep properly you'll get mentally ill.
I suppose it can be somewhat mitigated with supplements and daylight lamps but by and large it's probably best to stick to latitudes you are best adapted to.

I drink probably 1 - 1,5 liters of milk every day.
Never had vitamin D deficiency despite spending most of my time inside.
