Reminder the real inventor of the airplane is brazilian man named Alberto Santos Dumont. The slingshot meme plane by the Wright brothers shouldn't even be called an airplane.

He wasn't actually a "filthy monkey". He was French-Brazilian, of French and Portuguese ancestry but born in Brazil. He had no West African or indigenous Brazilian blood.
Also, he never built a single airplane in Brazil. For some reason, he only built aircraft and flew them in France.
So even though Brazilians claims him, France was the country that allowed for his intellectual endeavours to be explored most thoroughly.

The Wright brothers and Santos Dumont were polar opposites in personality.
The Wrights were primarily businessmen, they were concerned only on making money, they did not care about their invention other than a means of bringing the big bucks. That’s why they were kept their invention in secrecy until they got a patent.
Dumont was a visionary, he had no real monetary objective, only contributing to “human progress” (being from a wealthy farmer family ensured he needn’t worry about money). He openly discussed his invention on the media and even allowed specialized magazines to fully publish the entire blueprints of it.
