He got it better than me (27, unemployed, zero female interaction)

I personally believe the amount of true hikkikomori in this country is a bit (blocking green text here) >500,000. Most Americans who withdraw for the same reasons usually just become NEETS who only go out for food with little exception

I'd say that NEETS of this description are probably 3mil

there are way more people over the age of 50 who qualify as hikikomori than there are under 30 and nobody ever really talks about this

people just stop living at a certain point

No longer a NEET m8, got hard studying, working out, living life to the fullest, and today got a free day due to Catholics having free days.
addendum: let me post Hiroyuki, you know who am I.

Nah but I was a NEET for 6 months after finishing college. Depressing time, but at this stage in my life I'd honestly prefer being NEET if it was possible for me
I wasn't a complete shut in so I guess I wasn't a hikikomori, but I had zero friends and only went outside to have incel walks and get food

Not anymore but I was a NEET for 7 years. I have mixed feelings about NEETdom. I don't like how I have 0 time for the things I like now that I'm working but my old life was not sustainable. I had no money for anything. I can't imagine living like that into my 30s and 40s.
