Compared to the US, among other things Japan has less economic inequality, a longer average lifespan, ranks higher in average IQ, more paid maternal leave and paid vacations, far less crime, far less violent crime, far less firearm crime, far fewer homicides, ranks much higher on the PISA assessment scores, has better infrastructure, a lower obesity rate, higher cancer survival rate, a lower crude suicide rate (sic, per latest data [2021]), a much higher return rate for lost items, less child poverty, far less expensive housing, a higher Inequality-adjusted human development index, and has more cities scoring higher in multiple quality of life rankings across various indicators
