Actually Sweden and Japan share a lot of similarities, or used to, until Sweden turned into a low trust Brazil-type country. I think it was offen like english, and you could either pick french or spanish. They had to be fluent in them. Many kids had a separate first language they were also fluent in. This was for like 13-14 year olds.

You don't actually teach kids any language, they pick it up out of necessity. Unless They both make an effort for him to learn any other language, he will pick up english (the language his parents use to communicate) and japanese (the language he will need to learn to talk to his peers, teachers, etc) assuming he does put his kid in a japanese school. Last I remember it seems Pewdiepie and his parents make an effort to talk to him in swedish, so it's possible he grows up fluent in all three.

They taught the kids in their first language though. They just had to know other languages to even get in.
