My language is about to die in the next decade and I blame the shitty government for promoting made-up nationalist identity over local ones. I hope someone bomb this country and break it into multiple smaller states.

No offense but why would anybody want to speak your little baby local language when you can speak the lingua franca? I mean that's just history dude, get over it. Where is Manx or Occitan or Algonquin?

It's my identity. I don't want another one that is not my own. I don't like being forced to change for something I don't agree with and is NOT a crime to blame for in the first place.

Maybe you don't agree but that's life dude. Sorry but small useless local languages are just irrelevant in today's day and age.

You can blame us. It was we who tricked your cuntry to adopt the Johor-Riau version of Bahasa. We also tricked your cuntry to adopt our English-based spelling scheme instead of your Dutch-based scheme.

Yes. Problem is, as the major ethnic group we are actually the master of everything in this country to the point that we impoverish outer islands just for us but it also makes us too dependently cucked on this country.

Being useless is relative. You might fare better as a Lithunian in the EU rather than being in a sanction-ladden country like Russia.
Also you betrayed your ancestors. That's a shame.

Almost, but having islands as independent entities might spell doom for small nations.
But who knows, our Oceanic cousins are still alive and well, if the rising sea levels don't wipe their lands off maps in a century or so, so yeah.

>Dalmatian one
I never saw any Chakavians on 4chan if that's what you're asking. From what I see most Dalmatians here at best only pronounce and write "i" instead of "ije" or "e". They also got mostly replaced by Serbs and Bosnians in interior Dalmatia, Lika and former parts of Croatia in northern Bosnia. Basically in Dalmatia the only Chakavians that survived were those that lived under Venice and didn't get completely assimilated by Italians, so most on islands and natives from coastal towns are usually the ones that know or speak it.
I have limited knowledge on Chakavian from my mother's side but we don't actively speak it in the house because my dad's native dialect is something else entirely.

a few generations ago my family pretty much didn't even speak croatian and we live in the most developed part of the country near zagreb
and it didn't really disappear, but because education and modern services got introduced here very early it sort of just melded down in standard croatian - that's the best way to describe it - with every generation people just started speaking more and more "standard"

Why would the two countries that designed this country (post-WW2) dissolve it? It's more likely that they would just install a friendly government but keep the whole territory intact.

That's what I'm also starting to notice and it might become true in the near future. You know how some young people from the north speak with a heavy Kajkavian accent or even sometimes not being able to properly even speak the standard? I only saw that with Istrian Chakavians and rarely Chakavians around Rijeka.
Dalmatians all collectively just use ikavica, some romance words and more Serbian and Turkish loans while Istrians use almost none unless they're actively trying to speak the standard. Today most Dalmatian Chakavian is as Chakavian as neo-purger špreha is Kajkavian.

You wouldn't get it. Every major ""national language"""" in history has had to destroy another at some point because people don't just magically replace their identity and history within a generation. External factors ruin everything and then come people like (You) who say "that's just history dude" as if you'd talk to your kids in Spanish after fifty billion Latinos move to the US.

Why, are you 90? Don't you speak it?
Since you care about this you should make an effort to preserve the language before it's too late. Many languages are in this situation and often these efforts are successful. Your language probably already has some org working on revitalization, join it. Of course, have kids and teach the language to them.

Ignore the haters in this thread, people without any knowledge of linguistics talking about languages always come up with garbage

even bosnians do that
and people from dalmatia that i've know openly identify as "vlachs" are are borderline aware they are catholicised serbs, while real coastline dalmatians are racist towards them and live in their own communities
real problem with chakavian is that original chakavian speakers are less than 10% of the actual population totally drowned out in a sea of vlachs and bosnians, while kajkavians tend to be by default more numerous
didn't help that everyone by the coast was an atheist communist so they had really low birth rates
