requirements for game publishers to have concrete end-of-life plans for online games. basically if its a singleplayer game with an online component, it needs to be made able to work offline when support ends. if its all online (like an mmo or pvp fps) then publishers need to give potential buyers a guaranteed minimum support date (we plan to support this game until at least xx/xx/xxxx).

companies can decide on something like 2 years from launch and then keep extending it every year as it continues to be profitable. keeping a server alive with no updates or players is cheap, especially if you dont expect to make money off it and just have a fresh hire restart it every time it falls over. either way having a big red flag like (this game is guaranteed support until [1 month from now] is a good way to stop rugpulls.

cant affect us non-euros negatively in any way. if companies decide to extra cuck their games for the euro market then we'll have a choice of buying the american version or pirating the euro version. if they pull out of europe, theyll still sell to america.

It's to help destroy the grey area that video games are currently in that companies are abusing. The goal is to make a decisive decision if video games are indeed a product or a service.
Otherwise soon it will be your very own car that a manufacturer can randomly brick on you for no other reason than it being "too old" despite it running just fine.

Well, it is an EU citizens' initiative and they have a legal obligation to address it if the initiative passes so it's expected that you'd have to give them a valid ID.

Anonymous Serbia No.212331791 [Report] >>212331990 >>212332223
Also this will just discourage game developers from making multiplayer games since there's no guarantee that anyone would buy their game during the period when they would have to keep supporting the game instead of shutting down the servers the moment they notice they failed. Single player is a much lower risk

>then publishers need to give potential buyers a guaranteed minimum support date
It doesn't say this and it's unlikely this would ever happen.
The minimum you can expect is that private purely-online game servers can't be taken down if the publisher has ended support.
>>212331791
>they would have to keep supporting the game instead of shutting down the servers
That's retarded and not what it's asking for.
For purely online games you could expect that private servers for dead games wouldn't be taken down, and maybe, if we're lucky, companies will have to enable game owners to host their own private servers.
